Ground Screws Australia and Pritchard Francis
As part of BHP’s Rapid Growth Project 5 (RPG5), we were contracted by LJN Consortium to supply and install 1,200 ground screws to meet stringent cyclonic requirements and 1:1000 year events as determined by BHP. The camp was built to accommodate 400 construction workers to duplicate the rail link between Newman and Port Hedland.

The reusable and removable pile and cyclone tie down design was completed by Pritchard Francis engineers. As the only Australian screw foundation company capable of fulfilling the strict design, certification and challenging installation criteria for the project, we were engaged to provide the client with 6.5 tonnes tension capacity per footing. Our specialised installation equipment allowed us to install our OS 114×1200 and 1600 ground screws at the challenging hard and rocky site, providing 7.5 – 8 tonnes installed capacity each. BHP tested our ground screws again after a 12 month period and were happy to find that the installed capacity had increased to 10.5 – 12.5 tonnes. Since this project and as a trusted BHP supplier, our ground screws have been used at numerous BHP and BMA sites across Australia.
